[TEMP CHECK] - BanklessDAO Citizenship Upgrade v1

This is a good point.

There should be a follow up conversation regarding ways to handle, deal with, or generate the surpluses for those who may not have the ability to have the intended alignment.

Regarding ways to handle surplusses, we still have some time before we have to think about that.

The stage of generating the surplusses is where we’re focused now, it feels like. We’re all looking for ways to drive revenue back to the DAO. Once we find our ways and these revenue streams start accumulating, then we’ll hopefully be positioned to plan for allocation of surplusses.

With regards to those who may not have the ability to signal alignment with a financial commitment, I see an an opportunity for incentive alignment in subsidizing some (or all) of a contributor’s membership requirement in certain circumstances. Some thoughts that come to mind:

  • Grant programs funded by the DAO Treasury for periodic membership drives
  • Sponsorships by subgroups looking for particular skills or talents
  • Giftable memberships for friends, family, or personal-touch onboarding

But step one is generate a surplus, so let’s keep PAMPing! :chart_with_upwards_trend:

DAOing is fun and all, but I’m excited to get back to the part where we point collective wealth at helping people instead of just overhead expenses. :sunglasses:

Yeah. You got that right my friend.

I hear about a program called together crew that may help with this aspect.

Sounds to me like a main driver for bDAO deals with media. I believe if you really put your foot into driving different aspects of media production (like we see with a lot of the people who actually commented in this thread) the results will follow.

Yeah. Makes sense to really just work to shore up the defense, and iterate.

gm @Icedcool and @defibeats, thank you for the proposal.

Does this mean that there is only 1 renewal period? If not, I believe that the number of times a Guest Pass can be renewed should also have a limit or else there is no incentive to move up to Level 1 within a certain time frame. You would still be able to be a Guest Pass forever through bountied work.

I think that should be an option along with the n° of weeks that it lasts, for example:

0 renewals, 1 season duration
1 renewal, 1 month duration
2 renewals, 1 month duration
3 renewals, 2 weeks duration

The design is set at infinite renewals, set at 4 week period (instead of 2 weeks currently).

I agree! The way we are addressing it is strengthening L1 rather than limiting access to the DAO.

The challenge with adding renewal limits is that it starts to create scarcity of access to the DAO, when I think we want to maintain the DAO being an open accessible place. Basically, open boarders but with restrictions on what you can do.

The SOON to be released bDIP will restrict voting and role holding to L1 holders and up, and with the new funding procedures I think we are starting to achieve good incentives towards L1.

The roadmap for v2 is, change the L1 requirement to tlBANK holders only, then enable payment in tlBANK (working out technical issues) and bounties can be paid in tlBANK.

I think once we have all this set up, we will have really strong incentive towards L1, without being punitive.

Hi friends, thanks for the great proposal @Icedcool @defibeats

I hope that the validity of guest passes will really be extended from 2 weeks to 4 weeks. As it will make it easier for the relevant participants to make sure that this pass is always available to depositors. Who helps in the guilds but do not yet have enough money to buy BANK for level 1.

And yes, I agree that l1 should be the minimum requirement for leading roles in DAO as it also helps fight sybils.

Ummm … I won’t comment on the nunances but I’d point out that if ␢DAO (or whatever it gets rebranded as) turns into a for/low/zero-profit, then “pay” for “work” might incur some tax liabilities, especially countries which have minimum wages or child labor laws.

Appreciation to @Eagle for pointing out that there’s EU laws on corporate “gifts” but apparently they have to total < annual threshold (to my ungoogled understanding 50 euros). So for L1s who regularly hit the bounty boards, this could end up adding to the workload of the poor GrantCommittee (reporting obligations).

The alternative is to treat the BANK as a “comp” an in-kind compliment akin to treating someone to lunch in appreciation for a “volunteer” activity (and even non-profits are regulated in some countries).

Summary: choose your wording carefully otherwise someone more than SէC eVader (the rebels are not here … that is all the exploration I need) with their normSnoopers might turn up with a “please explain” notice/subpoena. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

apologies to @perchy 's Patron

I think it’s safest to treat any tokens from DAOs as income for now.

I think its safest to treat any tokens from DAOs as income for now

Which would work if ␢DAO was a discretionary trust and distributions are naturally taxable in hands of beneficiaries. If connected to an recurrent activity @thetaxpanda might have a better clue as to what reporting obligations are due. See prior legal guild work on global tax. Now what about GST/VAT for interguild trade of services, withholding tax for tlBANK, and FX losses to BANK? Countriies can be perverse, Australia make ruling that a hard fork meant your altcoins doubled so capital gains was immediately dur
