bDIP-N: Guest Pass and Voting Addendum

Title: bDIP-N: Guest Pass and Voting Addendum
Draft Authors: @Defibeats, @Trewkat, @hirokennelly, @IcedCool
Working Group: Treasury Department, Governance Department
Historic Temp Check: TEMP CHECK - Guest Pass V2

BDIP SUMMARY

  • This bDIP revises the voting and role opportunities available to Guest Pass holders to strengthen the privileges associated with Level 1 Membership.
  • Changes this bDIP enacts:
    • Guest Pass holders may indefinitely seek renewal of the initial 28-day Guest Pass.
    • Only L1 Members are eligible to hold roles and vote outside Snapshot.

BDIP BACKGROUND

Guest Pass holders and L1s currently share the same opportunities and privileges in BanklessDAO. While Guest Pass holders are important, welcome and valued at BanklessDAO, people who retain the requisite BANK holding for Level 1 Membership signal alignment with bDAO’s mission and this alignment should confer the privilege of holding roles in guilds and departments and voting on ideas and proposals before they reach Snapshot.

BDIP SPECIFICATION

Current Form Proposal

Old text in Article 3: Membership

3.1 BANK Token Holders

Any person who holds BANK tokens in an ETH wallet may vote on BanklessDAO Snapshot proposals. It is necessary to join the BanklessDAO Discord to access further community infrastructure.

3.2 Discord Membership Levels

Discord membership levels are assigned using role tags. While these roles may grant owners certain access and admin privileges, they do not constitute a hierarchical system granting authority over others. They are social signals designed to aid in communication and coordination.

3.2.1 Guests

Guests are designated by their “Guest Pass” role tag. After completing an onboarding process, Guest Pass holders are granted 14 days to investigate, participate, and test the community waters. Individuals who desire to move beyond the guest status do so by confirming that they hold the required amount of BANK for Level 1 Membership.

3.2.2 Level 1: Members

Level 1 Members (L1) are those who have accumulated the requisite 35,000 BANK and are authenticated as such in the Discord server. DAO Members that mint the preset tlBANK will also be given L1 Membership with the included benefits. Only the tlBANK minting address receives the L1 access.

3.1.1 Voting Limitations

A person who has joined the BanklessDAO Discord without verifying the prerequisite holding of BANK tokens for Level 1 Membership (as per Section 3.2.2) will not be eligible to vote on any platform other than Snapshot.

3.2 Discord Membership Levels

Discord membership levels are assigned using role tags. These roles grant assignees certain access, voting, earning, or admin privileges.

3.2.1 Guests

Guests are designated by their “Guest Pass” role tag. After completing an onboarding process, Guest Pass holders are initially granted 28 days to investigate and participate in the community, following which they may request a renewal. Individuals who desire to move beyond the Guest status do so by confirming that they hold the required amount of BANK for Level 1 Membership. Guest Pass members are not eligible to hold roles within the DAO.

EXPECTED IMPACT

By limiting voting and role holding to Level 1 Members we aim to encourage people to strengthen Level 1, and encourage alignment to BanklessDAO’s long term governance and financial viability. This leveling system rewards motivation and commitment to BanklessDAO’s mission and makes it worthwhile for contributors to retain Level 1 Membership.

So, how is this enforced? What is meant by formal roles ? Guild coordinator, governance, etc?

This seems like it would be in the GC wheelhouse to enforce.

Would there have to be a designated directory of roles w/in the guild?

How does it do this? It seems like there’s a missing piece here. A person at a guest pass who’s been a guest pass for x number of years is less motivated? That’s a very small minority it seems.

That said, I can see what you mean from newer GP members. You should likely want to see their intentions first.

Also, how are you going to enforce the voting portion with discourse? Is someone going to need to cross reference voters to discord levels? Can discourse be token gated?

I voted for this… as you can see.

but I’m curious how this gets executed. Good luck!
