Summary

Main responsibilities include: bots, cartography, communications, tooling, DAO-wide member compensation (formerly via Coordinape), membership perks, community management, documenting efficiencies between Guilds and DAOs, seasonal planning, surveying and analyzing behaviors and sentiments within the DAO.

Highlights of S6 include: continuously refining and improving Ops Department processes, receiving tooling collaboration requests and implementing pilots (e.g. Otterspace / Collab.land Badge Program), ceasing use of the Operations Department Coordinape

creating and implementing new roles and work streams as they are needed (i.e. Tally/VaultWarden), and acting as a hub for the DAO, providing value via ongoing support.

Perhaps most significantly, members of the Operations Department discovered erroneous calculations in the DAO-wide Coordinape and launched an investigation that ultimately showed an Operations Department role holder, Whales, was stealing funds, and numerous DAO members were inappropriately allocating BANK and GIVE to disproportionately increase their yield from Coordinape rounds. The Operations Department, with great intention and care, is leading the process to establish outcomes or consequences for those involved and setting precedent for future incidents of this kind.

The Operations Department has been and will continue to be a pillar of strength for the DAO. We study what has worked, what hasn’t, and make changes to our processes accordingly, through the bDIP standard. We are constantly improving and defining our scope of work as well as making our current processes and frameworks as efficient as possible.

Season 7 Anticipated Spend 989,516 BANK + 200,000 BANK buffer

BanklessDAO Treasury Ask: 1,189,516 BANK - 552,753 rollover = 636,763 BANK

Season 6 Budget Summary

  • S6 total budget was 2,119,985 BANK
  • Extra BANK identified in the multisig from previous seasons: 524,478 BANK
  • S6 total allocated as of January 20th, 2023 was 1,581,057 BANK
  • S6 Anticipated Rollover = 552,753 BANK

Season 7 Plans and Goals

In Season 7 the Operations Department will move to longer-tenure roles at the Department level. While Work Streams have the autonomy to determine their own governance and election cycles, Department roles and Work Stream Coordinators will see a maximum tenure of three seasons. Any of these long-tenured roles may be subject to election if there is consensus for lack of confidence in the role holder’s abilities or dedication to the role.

For election of these long-tenured roles, nominees must demonstrate the appropriate skills or experience to be considered for election. In this respect, the Apprentice Program will serve as a training and redundancy mechanism in an effort to ensure the Operations Department maintains a pool of skilled contributors. Each long-tenured role holder will be responsible for maintaining a role description and role holder transition document, for new role holder reference.

New accountability mechanisms have been developed to ensure long-tenured role holders are active and accountable to the Operations Department, and bDAO:

  • Bi-weekly updates will be shared in a consolidated thread for public review; and
  • Each long-tenured role holder will be required to provide a narrative seasonal debrief via shared document (e.g. GDoc), guided by (but not limited to) the following questions:
    • What did I accomplish this season?
    • Did I fulfill all of the responsibilities identified in the role description?
    • How did I go above and beyond?
    • What did I improve in my tenure so far?

These seasonal debriefs will be reviewed and voted on/approved by the Operations Department active membership. If the vote does not pass, the role will go up for election.

The Operations Department will continue to develop the Otterspace / Collab.land badge program to improve security and automation within Discord, and to generate reputation markers for DAO members.

Throughout Season 6 the Operations Department received numerous requests for collaboration and test implementations of DAO tooling solutions. In Season 7 the Department will likely create a DAO Tooling Work Stream to consolidate and coordinate these requests. Work Stream members will work collaboratively with DAO tooling developers to find and develop tools optimized for bDAO. This proposed Work Stream would maintain transparent documentation on their efforts and the outcomes of collaborations.

With the indeterminate halting of bDAO’s use of Coordinape at the DAO level, the Operations Department will likely be involved in finding or developing an optimal alternative. As there are polls pending at the time of this proposal, it is uncertain how the Operations Department will be involved in Season 7.

Beyond the above detailed endeavors, we will continue to work to keep the DAO running as efficiently as possible and improve upon current processes.

  • Continuing to map the DAO’s activities via Sobol
  • Continuing to fund Notion Administration
  • Improve and iterate on Seasonal Planning
  • Focus on bDAO tooling solutions and public goods

@Rowan Hi! Thanks for this proposal. I am wondering why you chose to not include a poll?

I chose not to include a poll as the GC makes decisions around funding so it seemed unnecessary.

Beyond that, in terms of engagement and feedback on the forum, it’s easy to click a button but that alone doesn’t provide enough information for Ops to adjust or accommodate for a concern that isn’t expressed in language.

With that said, if polls are a requirement for Department funding I have no problem adding one! If that’s the case, do you happen to know where the policy/direction documentation is?

First let me say this: I have pretty much given up on trying to stay updated on bDAO things through the use of Discord as the community hub. I believe the bDAO Discord to be an abject failure and a complete mess for a “normie” like myself to try and follow the monstrosity that is bDAO.

How does this tie into the Operations Department you may ask? Well I blame much of this on the Ops Department who has let it get to this point.

That same failure also seems to be spilling over into the S7 forum posts. Some guilds/projects are a mess, along with their proposals, or so it appears.

Yet the Ops Dep. aims to run bDAO “efficiently”? The only thing appearing to be efficient is the bDAO $BANK money printer. It is whirring like there’s no tomorrow.

bDAO should be a guiding light in the DAO space, we’re supposed to be heading west to success, not a track that leads to a trainwreck.

Coordinape fiasco was caught, but did happen under their watch. Were previous Cooridinapes checked for irregularities?

We can be better bDAO, with the Ops team leading the way.
